Dharma Talk by Caitriona Reed

Caitriona Reed The Five ChangesA hidden agenda

A  talk given by Caitriona Reed on a three day retreat at Manzanita Village near Warner Springs in Southern California,

“I have to warn you that the teachers have hidden agenda … to change your mind.”

“I must also warn you that many things that we will be telling you on this retreat will be untrue, including, perhaps, this statement.”

The Buddha suggested we question and check everything before we accept it as truth.

How deep can you go with this?

Are you a Psychotic or a Robot?

robot or psychoticAre you a robot or a psychotic? Robots do the same thing over and over again and respond to different situations and people in the same way – identically every time.

Psychotics, on the other hand, are unpredictable, responding to different people and situations in different ways, sometimes inappropriately.

In everyday life, if we’re functional we behave, hopefully, a little bit like the psychotic in that we have behavioral flexibility and can choose how we respond (rather than responding to everything in exactly the same way).

We can also, hopefully, distinguish between our imagined reality and the reality that is commonly held by those we are reacting with. That’s what makes us a functional.

The alternative would be to respond in exactly the same way to every person or situation you encounter. That would make you a robot.

Are you a psychotic or a robot?

Meditation Retreat – how we begin

meditation retreat podcastIntroductory remarks given on the first evening of a three-day meditation retreat Wild Mind at Manzanita Village near Warner Springs in Southern California by Caitriona Reed.

Meditation retreats utilize an integrate approach to Thien (Vietnamese Zen) and Vipassana as taught in the Theravada tradition.

In addition to retreats, we offer a comprehensive approach to coaching for individuals and entrepreneurs.
